I love kids stuff. I can’t even believe the options parents can choose from today that just didn’t exist when we were kids. I must confess, I’m even a little jealous. When I was putting these 2 segments together for BT Winnipeg, I really wanted to include stuff that the kid in me (and most [...]

Earth Day is definitely one of my favourite holidays of the year. I think it also has to do with the fact that when April 22nd rolls around it also means that  warmer days are upon us… well except maybe this year. Nevertheless, it’s a day where I like to take stock of what I’m [...]

What’s your take on consumerism and this world of planned obsolescence we now live in? CTV News Montreal had me on to talk about responsible consumption in time for Earth Day. To demonstrate my point, I had with me in the interview some locally-made, eco-friendly products by Ecojot, St.Geneve and Bio Spectra’s Attitude products.

As far as consumer goods are concerned, I won’t lie and tell you it’s easy to only buy locally made, some products are really hard to find but believe me, once you start seeking out to buy Canadian or American intentionally, you will not be able shop like you used to ever again. I really love promoting locally made products and if I could do this full time I totally would. I love it because I can research (the research really is half the fun) and promote everyday items made here but I can niche it up and focus on skin care if I want to or apparel [...]

As many of you already know, March is Nutrition Month in Canada (and USA) so in my first segment I focused on healthy Canadian made foods. Foods from Shoal Lake Wild Rice, Earth’s Own almond and rice milks, delicious Raincoast Crisps and Vega’s plant based health supplements.

Kootsac is based out of (you guessed it) the Kootenays, British Columbia. The owner, Morgen Bardati, is really kind and talented and also fully embraces social media, which is aces on my books! She manufacturers her reusable bulk and produce bags in various sizes and colours. Made in Canada, good for the environment.

I’m sometimes asked how, or what I use to promote made in Canada and made in USA products and the companies that make and sell them via my personal brand, In Country with Melissact & Friends. I thought I’d put a few down here… Twitter, Facebook, YouTube, Google Alerts, Fancy, StumbleUpon and Delicious.

What I’ve discovered in wearing an Escents Aromatherapy Essential Oil Blend as a perfume is that it costs a fraction of what regular designer fragrances do and lasts twice as long. Equally cool is that you won’t smell like everyone else (finally, some individuality!) and all their blends contain pure ingredients, zero chemicals or dyes… Completely natural.

When I was younger, I was all about band t-shirts and graphic skate t-shirts. Today, it’s mostly blank t-shirts and ones supporting causes, where proceeds go to charities I respect. What kind of t-shirts do you wear? What causes do you actively support (other than the Locally-made cause ;) Do you feel like you do enough to affect change in your world?
